JOB SUMMARY
Under the leadership of the Director of Scientific Review and Grants Administration, the Grants Manager is responsible for supporting the development and coordination of the Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) research projects to effectiveness in all phases of grant funding. The Grant Manager serves as the grants management expert and possesses a high level of project management and operational expertise in establishing and implementing policies and procedures in alignment with federal regulations, AACR and SU2C guiding principles.
Key Functions:
Assists Director with the planning, direction, implementation and evaluation of SU2C-AACR grants programs and initiatives in support of SU2C principles.
Evaluates and monitors the business management capability and performance of applicant organizations and grantees, and the internal operating procedures associated with management aspects of the grants process.
Participates in the oversight and allocation of budget; allocates resources, determines priorities and new initiatives;
Maintains and effectively manages a grant portfolio.
Represents AACR and SU2C in contacts with the U.S. and international scientific and research community.
Organizes and participates in symposia and discussions; coordinates periodic formal and informal narratives, reports or presentations on the GMO’s programs.
Oversees the planning, reviewing, negotiating, awarding, monitoring and managing of grants.
Work with physicians, clinicians, researchers and advocates to provide guidance and technical assistance for the SU2C-AACR grant applications.
Provides consultative services for proper fund control and effective grants management to administrators and program officers in organizations who are the beneficiaries of SU2C-AACR grants.
Ensure compliance with applicable contractual and regulatory requirements to be applied to the grants funded, including OMB Circulars for cost and administrative principles.
Serves as a program management expert in providing direction and guidance to the Director regarding grants management plans, policies, and operations.
Provides expert advice regarding grant policy and procedures as well as management practices and techniques.
Provides leadership in assessing and evaluating policies and overall activities in all areas of grants administration and develops new or modified policies, procedures, and/or internal controls to improve AACR’s grants administration program.
Oversees the handling and/or coordination and disposition of special legal and quasi-legal problem areas inherent to grants administration including termination, suspensions, withholding of support, patents, grantee misconduct allegations, and other matters.
Work closely with the Scientific Advisory Committee Advisor, conducts on-site reviews of grantees’ capabilities of conducting the proposed project:
Assist Director with budgets for grant proposals, including subcontract and independent Contractor Agreements.
Develop, manage, maintain and refine translational (scientific) and financial dashboards for each responsible teams
Develops and distribute Requests for Proposals (RFP); facilitate selection of grants in response to RFP.
Prepare and present grants to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC)
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
Strong project management, grant management, financial knowledge and scientific knowledge, including experience monitoring scientific milestones and deliverables.
Must be highly collaborative with demonstrated experience managing relationships with influence across teams.
Excellent written and oral communications skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a team in a deadline driven environment.
Competency in data management and using data management tools.
Must be a quick learner, entrepreneurial, ability to manage multiple projects with orientation towards strong results.
Demonstrated political acumen.
Must be able to deal with sensitive information.
Scope of work requires up to 25% travel.
Education and Training:
Masters Degree is required. PhD. or other advanced degree preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in grants management with a successful report of working with grantees.
