Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and Emory University School of Medicine, both under the umbrella of Emory’s Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center, have initiated a national search to identify an established basic scientist, physician scientist or clinician with an international reputation in innovative breast cancer research to fill the Jean Sindab Endowed Chair in Breast Cancer Research.
The Jean Sindab Chair is a $2 million endowment funded by an anonymous donor in honor of the late Jean Sindab, PhD – a Yale educated, African American scholar and activist who spent her life dedicated to issues of environmental, economic and racial justice. Candidates for the Jean Sindab Chair should have an exemplary record of internationally recognized, well-funded research, an outstanding record of high impact publications, and a collaborative/entrepreneurial spirit. Potential research areas of interest include, but are not limited to signaling pathways, cancer genetics and epigenetics, and development of innovative therapies.
The chosen candidate will receive a competitive startup package and will be named the inaugural Jean Sindab Chair in Breast Cancer Research, with membership in the NCI-designated Winship Cancer Institute and with his/her primary appointment in the appropriate Emory School of Medicine department. The candidate's research interests should complement or reinforce existing strengths of the Winship Cancer Institute. All endowed chairs are also expected to demonstrate significant and effective mentorship of pre-doctoral students, postdoctoral fellow and junior faculty as well as contribute to the teaching mission of Emory University.
