Bioinformatics Scientist / Associate Scientist - Translational Oncology

Description

Genentech seeks a talented and highly motivated candidate for a computational biology position in translational oncology research. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to pair world-class science with real human impact.

At Genentech we understand that cancer is complex, and we consider research as the foundation of innovative drug development. Our goal is to put patients first, and to translate our findings into advanced medicine. To understand the disease, explore the mechanisms of action of our drugs, and find new targets, we study in vitro and in vivo model systems, apply high-throughput technologies including next-generation sequencing, and incorporate public large-scale datasets.

We are looking for a new member in our team with outstanding computational skills, experience with the analysis of large-scale data, and an understanding of cancer biology. A successful candidate will pursue creative solutions to complex problems via the analysis and interpretation of a variety of data. The candidate will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams of computational and molecular scientists. Regular publication of scientific and methodological results is highly encouraged. Besides technical expertise, we are looking for someone who is passionate about applying their skills to advance our understanding and treatment of cancer, and who is able to effectively present complex results to scientists from different domains.

Who You Are

  • You have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or similar field with a strong record of high-throughput data analysis (e.g. WES, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq).
  • You are comfortable writing code in high-level programming languages such as R, MATLAB, Python or Perl for complex data analysis
  • You have a solid understanding of the relevant concepts in cancer biology (cancer immunology is a plus)
  • You are curious about the biology of the disease and enjoy working closely with bench scientists and bioinformatics teams to collaboratively solve complex biological problems
  • You have exceptionally strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills
  • You are creative and passionate about applying your skills to help patients
