The Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) of the NCI is seeking a candidate with a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics for the position of Branch Chief, Drug Synthesis and Chemistry Branch (DSCB).
The incumbent will direct the activities of the Drug Synthesis and Chemistry Branch (DSCB) - NCI and will collaborate with investigators of the NCI DTP (https://dtp.cancer.gov/). The incumbent will provide scientific leadership and oversight for the Drug Synthesis and Chemistry Branch's mission to advance the discovery and development of novel cancer therapeutics. Responsibilities include directing programs that acquire, synthesize, characterize, scale up, and ensure the quality of innovative chemical entities and compound libraries for preclinical and clinical research. The incumbent oversees the planning, management, and execution of complex, multimillion-dollar contracts supporting chemical synthesis, analytical services, pharmaceutical formulation, dosage-form development, large-scale manufacturing, chemical pilot plant production under Good Manufacturing Practices, storage, distribution, and shelf-life assessment of investigational agents. Additional responsibilities include guiding medicinal and synthetic chemistry research, managing chemical information resources, fostering collaborations across academia, government, and industry, identifying emerging scientific opportunities, and ensuring the availability of high-quality pharmaceutical products that support the National Cancer Institute's cancer drug discovery and development programs.
